Buy the best chocolate.

February 10, 2011

I’ve got a bit of a chocolate problem. I can’t get enough of the stuff!

Yesterday I ate a 400g bar (14 ounces). That’s just under half a kilo of chocolate in one day. It’s certainly not the thing to be doing if I’m going to lose my gut.the chocolate orgy ended in love

But problem started when we had friends visiting last week and one of them brought two 400g bars of chocolate for me as she knew I liked it so much. And this is what I end up doing. I’ll be chilling out in the evening, watching a bit of TV maybe, and fancy a bit of chocolate. So I break off one line, which in this case was four chunks, and I tell myself that’s all I’ll have. So I sit and eat that and then about ten minutes later I feel like some more, so I break off another line and tell myself that should do me. Again, ten minutes after finishing that fancy a bit more and this goes on and on until I’ve finished the lot.

Now, with a 400g bar at one point I really feel like I’ve had enough so I leave it. But it only takes an hour or so before I feel like some more again.

By the time I go to bed I’ve consumed far more chocolate than I had intended.

So what am I going to do about this?

Well, the obvious answer would be to not let myself eat chocolate at all,  but how long would that last? No, I have a cunning plan…

I like all sorts of chocolate, especially high end, rich, dark chocolate. The thing I’ve noticed about proper dark chocolate, rather than the milk chocolate I normally eat is that I get my chocolate ‘kick’ very quickly and I really can’t eat a large amount of it.

So from now on, rather than not allowing myself any chocolate, I’m only going to buy good quality dark chocolate. Then when I get a chocolate urge, I can really just eat a few chunks and I’ll be happy with that. I know this from experience. Plus there are loads of varieties of interesting, high end, chocolates available so I can be more experimental than going for a standard Dairy Milk, and I’ll probably end up enjoying the experience more too!

Small changes, big results!
